Nige's Surgery - Update #5

Last night was tough for Nige. Because he had slept a lot during the day yesterday he struggled to sleep during the night, and when he did sleep he was hallucinating. Actually, yesterday while he was sitting in the chair I asked him if he was enjoying sitting. He responded that he was but that he was daydreaming. When asked what he was dreaming his response was, "Long drop. Starlight 13. Colonel Klink." (Starlight 13 and Colonel Klink are from the old TV show Hogan's Heroes.) As you can tell he was just a bit out of it. Funny. Anyways, the hallucinations are caused by one of his painkillers, but I'm glad to say that he is no longer on that one. He is still on morphine though.

Nige spent most of the day sitting in a chair today, and even went for four walks around his ward. Three of those walks were without the walking frame.

Nige is NOT enjoying have the feeding tube down his nose but he is much better today because of receiving the nutrients through the night, which is great. He is allowed to eat anything he'd like in addition to the tube and he even had some mashed potoato tonight - his favourite!

Today I got to see his cut. I guess the surgeon needed to cut bigger than the 12cm he told us Tuesday morning, coz it's actually more like 30cm! But it looks to be healing well and is nice and clean.

So it's been a good day. He's still sleepy, not talking much, and very slow moving but . . . there is much progress which we thank the Lord for!

I asked him if there was anything he wanted me to say here on the blog tonight and he said to say, "Being here is as much fun as being in English Grammer class." For those of you who have taken this class with Nige, you'll know what he's talking about! :)
