He had another tough night with a lot of pain, slow breathing (it got down to 5 breaths per minute) and not much sleep but these things had both improved by mid-morning, and his colour was definitely better.
In the afternoon the physiotherapist came to visit and got him standing, then marching on the spot (very slowly mind you) and then he walked to the end of the bed and around (an L-shape) and back again. She wanted him to do it again in the afternoon but that didn't end up happening because of needing to get a feeding tube down his nose. This was not a pleasant experience for him, actually quite distressing and after three people attempting to insert it, it finally went down. Poor guy - it was horrible watching him go through this. He so didn't want it in there! After 5-10 minutes he dropped off to sleep again. About an hour after that was inserted they took him for an x-ray to make sure it was in the right place and after confirmation the food was started - 30ml per hour. The food will give him the strength he needs to walk some more, cough some more, and heal some more.
It's definitely been a day of improvements which is great to see. Nige slept a lot again but this time it was restful sleep today. Praise God!
We had the blessing of church family from Riverbend come visit today - Phil and Natalie with the children, James Major who was in Auckland for work, and Bruce and Val Noell who were here for a follow-up doctor appointment for Bruce. So neat! Thank you Lord!
Again, thank you for the various communications I've received today - so encouraging to know so many are praying for us at this time. We love you all! :)
