art deco weekend, napier

Each February Napier hosts Art Deco Weekend - a time of remembering the 1930's and specifically the 1931 earthquake which flattened the city.  When the city was rebuilt they chose art deco style buildings and Napier is now known around the world for their art deco style.
Verity Pickering and her father in-law, Lawrence, invited us to join them in Napier for a picnic dinner by the soundshell.
These are some heart-shaped garlic and Parmesan cheese bread pieces I made for our picnic - seeing it was the week of Valentine's Day.  :)

We were treated to a small air show, which was pretty neat to watch.
LOTS of people get dressed up in 1930's style clothing for the events during the weekend so we enjoyed 'people watching'.
Later in the evening a Jazz band started playing.  They had one male and one female vocalist for the 1930's style songs they were singing.  Quite a number of people got up to dance up in front of where people were sitting.  It was a really relaxing and enjoyable evening, with good company too.
