our american christmas day

It's funny that we're from New Zealand, where it's Summer at Christmas time, and yet, as a married couple, we've never been to the beach on Christmas Day and here we are back in California where it's Winter and we find ourselves at the beach on Christmas Day!  Chris and Jean Mueller picked us up at 9am and we headed to Carlsbad Beach, a 45 minute drive from our place.  We strolled along the boardwalk, just enjoying chatting with each other, hearing the waves, and watching the occasional rogue wave and people running to get away from it, to not get wet.  It was a lovely morning.

In the evening we were invited to join Mark and Pam Petras, their two sons and their daughter in-law for dinner.  We had a competition for who could decorate their gingerbread man the best.

For dessert I made this Christmas Wreath Pavlova.  It has a raspberry coulis drizzled over the whipped cream, and then raspberries, pomegranates and mint leaves were sprinkled over top.  After dessert we played the board game Articulate.  On one of my turns I got the giggles, so much so, that I couldn't get even one single clue out to my team mates!  Funny!
We had a lovely day with new friends from Faith Bible Church, and we are thankful to the Lord for allowing us to serve Him alongside these dear people.
