Nige's Surgery - Update #7

Friday, walking down the hall to farewell the Hendersons.
This morning I arrived and found Nige happier and looking better than yesterday morning. They had been feeding him through the tube during the night and he was better for it this morning.

After visiting Nige I went to church at Howick Baptist with friends who were down from Keri Keri, and bumped into 15 or so Riverbend people who were there for the conference. It was great to be with church family and sit under the teaching of God's Word. The main speaker from the conference was preaching this morning - Conrad Mbewe, from Zambia. He preached from Psalm 50 and challenged us to regularly stand beside God's plumbline so we keep our lives right before Him. A good challenge and reminder.

While I was at church, Nige had the four lines coming from his neck removed, which included the morphine pump, AND he had the feeding tube removed from his nose - he was very excited about that, and I was too for his sake! He is still having morphine, just orally now. This afternoon he had a moment where he felt the best he'd felt since the surgery.

A funny story: yesterday afternoon while sitting in the chair Nige was having another of his dreams. He said he was dreaming that one of his seminary professors (who shall remain nameless!) was running around the room like he was a giraffe! Very funny!! Hopefully the dreams will ease off now that his morphine intake has lessened.

Today's visitors: Joanne from Wellington who was in town to celebrate her friend's 40th and Xie (Shoo) who used attend church@riverbend and her fiancé.

Here's some of Psalm 50 from this morning's sermon:

Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving
And pay your vows to the Most High;
Call upon Me in the day of trouble;
I shall rescue you, and you will honor Me.
But to the wicked God says,
What right have you to tell of My statutes
And to take My covenant in your mouth?
For you hate discipline,
And you cast My words behind you.
When you see a thief, you are pleased with him,
And you associate with adulterers.
You let your mouth loose in evil
And your tongue frames deceit.
You sit and speak against your brother;
You slander your own mother's son.
These things you have done and I kept silence;
You thought that I was just like you;
I will reprove you and state the case in order before your eyes.
Now consider this, you who forget God,
Or I will tear you in pieces, and there will be none to deliver.
He who offers a sacrifice of thanksgiving honors Me;
And to him who orders his way aright
I shall show the salvation of God.
Psalm 50:14-23

Hi Nige and Sereena

Great to hear of your progress Nige and that the feeding tube is now out!! We had a great time at Cornerstone on Sunday and spent a lot of time praying for you both. I'm glad your hallucinations are settling down and know that my father doesn't enjoy having them either. His most recent one saw him having a tug of war on the bed with his sheets! Unfortunately he won the tug of war and ended up on the floor with a sore back and a bump on the head!! Still I suppose that's better than the time he thought that he was playing rugby and dived out of bed to score a try!! Thanks so much for the updates Sereena we look forward to seeing you both back in the Bay real soon. Love Gavin
