This year at Sports Camp our guest speaker was Mike Penberthy from Placerita Baptist Church in Newhall, CA. Nige and I had the privilege of hosting Mike during his brief visit to New Zealand. This photo was taken right before Mike left to fly back to Los Angeles, and yes, I'm standing on the step so I don't look SO short next to these six foot something guys! :)
The youth all arrive Friday evening from 7pm onwards and then their first game is about 6:30 am the next morning. They go all day playing sports except for three teaching sessions during the Labour Day weekend.
Mike played for the LA Lakers for two years, alongside Shaq and Kobe, and he shared some stories with the youth about his time with the Lakers and how he was able to share Christ with these guys.
