under the knife

My poor Nige has been under the knife again.  Last Monday I took him to Hawke's Bay Hospital for him to have a groin hernia repair surgery.  He noticed the hernia just over a year ago but it wasn't discovered by the doctor until about 10 months ago.  So he went on a waiting list in the public system and his turn came around last Monday!  It was just day surgery this time.  Friday came and Nige took the bandage off and discovered a 12cm (almost 5") cut with 10 staples!!  Whoa - what a surprise!  One week later we headed to our local GP office where the nurse removed the staples - ouch!  As I wasn't allowed to take pictures of the wound area, I thought a photo of the removed staples would suffice.  And there they are!  :)
Nige is still a bit slow moving but is recovering well.  He's keen to get back to driving the car which he's allowed to do again over the next few days.  We are thankful once again to the Lord for the free medical treatment Nige has been able to receive through the NZ health system and the smooth surgery procedure and smooth recovery!
