sports camp 2011

This year's Sports Camp speaker was Brent Eldridge from Long Beach, CA.  The day after he arrived Nige borrowed a bike for Brent and took him for a ride up Te Mata Peak.  Brent's not a cyclist but kept up with Nige because he's just fit anyways!
This is Te Mata Peak!!

Brent teaching at one of the four teaching sessions during the weekend.
During the camp Nige organised the cycle race.  The cyclists ride for 12 km on some of the country roads in our area.  There was only 18 racing this year and they're about to head off.
I volunteered in the canteen one afternoon, where drinks, candy and other snacks are sold.  This was the view out of the little trailer.  I enjoy volunteering here as its a great way to meet the young people at the camp, chat with the little Riverbend people who hang around hoping they'll be given some free candy, and chat with friends who pass by.
The final of the Rugby World Cup was played on the Sunday night and it so was incorporated into this year's programme.  Thankfully the All Blacks made it into the final and so everyone got into the spirit of things . . . even Nige!
Nige let a friend paint a Kiwi, "All Blacks" and a silver fern on his head.  Go Nige!  Everyone breathed a huge sigh of relief when the All Blacks won.  I'm not all that into rugby and I'm told they didn't play their best this night, but that overall they did deserve to win the cup.
