catalina island

Months ago we purchased discounted tickets from Groupon.com for the boat ride over to Catalina Island.  Nige had wanted to go there when we lived in Los Angeles years ago, but we never made it.  So when we saw half price tickets we decided we'd do it on one of his days off.  The ride over wasn't my favorite (I forgot that I don't do that well on boats!) but we did briefly see some dolphins along the way.

Avalon - the township on Catalina, is small and so most things were within walking distance.  Here we are walking towards The Avalon Casino (the township is behind us).
It turned out to not be the type of casino we were expecting, which was a pleasant surprise!
The view from our table at lunch - just gorgeous!
Nige enjoying getting his feet wet at the beach :)
It seems the most common form of transport by the locals in Avalon is by golf cart! They also have them available for hire, so we rented one for an hour and had fun exploring.
High up on a hill overlooking the township.  Beautiful!
Some of the homes in Avalon, close to the township.  Further back we discovered a number of apartment buildings, along with bigger fancier homes too.
The drive home.
